"Learn Spanish" Tutorials Are Not The Only Resource

This article is not about learning Spanish, but about how to learn Spanish. Learning any new language can be a daunting task. Indeed, with over 500,000 words to learn and their corresponding meanings, we have our work certainly cut out for us. But there are ways to make the road ahead less bumpy.

It is important to think about how you will structure your Spanish learning program. Thinking ahead can pay off if we assess the following consideration.

Motivation is one of the most important considerations. In other words the reason behind our decision to apply ourselves for a minimum of 6 months and maybe even more before we are at least a little fluent. Spanish is a very expressive language. It is quite different to English. If you are going to commit to learning Spanish using tutorials, you may as well do it properly and purchase some quality instructional resources.

The point I am making is that whatever reason you started out wanting to learn Spanish, it more than likely wont be strong enough to sustain you over the long term, unless you are a very disciplined type of person that always finishes what they started. If you lose your motivation, you may give up just before you started to really get a grasp on the language.

So my advice is to develop a new motivation as you go. Namely, you need a pay off, some sort of reward that will sustain you during the study program. What I have found is that after a few hours of study learning new words, the most enjoyable thing is to log on to one of the many Spanish speaking communities online and socialize in Spanish.

At first it will only be a small reward, but as you get to meet people and put into practice the words you have newly learned, it can be an excellent accompaniment to your Spanish tutorials. I find after a while, I began to really look forward to joining my Spanish speaking friends at the conclusion of my study sessions every night. This type of motivation creation is necessary to sustain you until you become fairly fluent.
